The American Bureau of Shipping recently announced that it has secured a contract to deliver and test a digital twin solution for real-time condition monitoring on a Petrobras floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit.
The ABS solution will create a digital twin of the asset, and as part of the initiative, ABS has chosen Akselos S.A. to deploy its Structural Performance Management software. Over the next year, the software will monitor one of four FPSO units in the Cessão Onerosa oil field to evaluate its performance.
"Condition monitoring plays a crucial role in supporting older assets. ABS has extensive expertise in helping clients develop effective life extension programs, with a focus on safety. The life extension assessment ensures that the unit continues to meet safety standards beyond its original design life. Incorporating real-time data from Akselos will enhance our analysis for Petrobras," said Matthew Tremblay, ABS Vice President of Global Offshore.
Thomas Leurent, CEO of Akselos, added, "Our Structural Performance Management expertise allows us to simulate the Petrobras FPSO with unparalleled speed, scalability, and precision. This real-time, high-fidelity simulation of the asset’s structural integrity enables safe life extension."
ABS is a global leader in classing the majority of the world’s FPSOs, including both new builds and conversions. You can learn more about it here.
